Man taken to hospital after being rescued from Welsh river

A person has been rescued from the River Towy following a joint operation by emergency services.

Reports of someone in the river near Tesco in Carmarthen were received just after 10.15am on Monday.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Carmarthen and Whitland to the incident, together with a rescue boat from Carmarthen.

A joint search and rescue operation was carried out by fire crews and officers from Dyfed Powys Police.

Coast guard teams and Ferryside independent lifeboat were also tasked to the incident.

A fire service spokesman said the operation lasted less than an hour, and added: "An individual was subsequently located and rescued from the river before being handed over to Ambulance crews".

“Dyfed-Powys Police attended The Quay in Carmarthen this morning, Monday December 13, following reports that a man had been seen in the River Towy.

"The man was rescued from the river and taken to hospital.”
