Man taken to hospital after being rescued from second floor of construction site

A man has been taken to hospital after an injury at work trapped him in the upper floor of a construction site.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Lea Gate, Bradshaw, at around 11.30am, after reports a construction worker had been injured at the site he was working on.

The man, who was working on the second floor at the time of his accident, needed to be rescued by the fire service as the extent of his injuries left him unable to move.

Fortunately, the man is expected to recover from his injuries, as they are not believed to be life-threatening.

Ady Taylor, the station manager at Bolton North and Horwich fire stations, described it as a "difficult rescue" for the team.

He posted pictures of the site - showing the small platform, a breeze block square around 2x2m, where the casualty was.

The small space also had limited headroom, with netting hung across the room around 1m above the platform.

Responders had to move the man onto a stretcher, before using a series of ropes to hoist him down to the ambulance below.

Station Manager Taylor added: "A worker on the site had injured himself and was unable to move due to the nature of the injuries, which thankfully are not life-threatening.

"Our crews, working in conjunction with NWAS, collaboratively worked out a plan to get them safely and swiftly from the building.

"Specialist rope rescue equipment was used and a stretcher."
