Man taken to hospital after being rescued from North Shields Fish Quay

A man has been taken to hospital after being rescued from the water at North Shields Fish Quay.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 5.25am on Tuesday morning after reports that a person was in the water.

The Coastguard paged the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade to assist in the multi-agency rescue operation and after approximately 20 minutes, the man was pulled to safety by RNLI crew members.

A spokesperson for the TVLB said that the man was handed over to the care of the North East Ambulance Service and all rescue units were stood down.

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service added: "We were called at 5.23am to reports of a person having fallen into the water at North Shields Fish Quay.

"We sent three of our Hazardous Area Response Teams, an officer and an ambulance.

"We took one male patient to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington."
