A man has been taken to hospital after being pulled from a stream in Bury.

Emergency services were called to Mill Street, in Tottington, at about 8.15am on Monday.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a man trapped in the stream, which they say was moving 'fast and strong'.

The incident is reported to have happened near to Island Lodge, a beauty spot off the Kirklees Trail.

Firefighters managed to rescue the man, who was in his 40s, before he was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 8:15 am on Monday 29 June, two fire engines from Bury and Ramsbottom fire stations, the Water Incident Unit from Heywood, and the Technical Response Unit from Leigh were called to reports of a person in water near Brandlesholme Road, Bury.

“Firefighters were quickly on the scene and used line rescue equipment to bring a man clear from the water, who was assessed by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service before being conveyed to hospital.

"Crews were in attendance for around an hour and ten minutes.”

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service added: "We were called to reports that someone had fallen into the water near Mill Street, in Tottington, at about 8.15am.

"We sent an ambulance, two rapid response vehicles and some of our hazardous area response team.
