Man taken to hospital after being hit by bus in Bristol city centre

A man has been taken to hospital after being hit by a bus in Bristol city centre on Tuesday (May 28) evening.

Emergency services were called to the A38 Colston Avenue in the city centre at 5.45pm this evening.

A man, believed to be in his 60s, was hit by a bus near Zed Alley on the southbound side of the road.

A spokesperson from South Western Ambulance Service said his injuries were not believed to be "too serious" and that he was taken to hospital with a leg injury.

An air ambulance was called to the incident and landed on College Green around 6pm.

But according to a spokesperson for the ambulance service the man was taken to Southmead Hospital by land ambulance, but was accompanied by the air ambulance medics.

Both lanes on the southbound side of the road near Zed Alley were blocked while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Police were on scene controlling traffic and officers also cleared College Green so that the air ambulance could land to assist with the incident.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesperson said: “We were called at 5.52pm this evening by the ambulance service to reports of a man having been hit by a bus in Colston Avenue."

There was some congestion around the city centre as a result of the incident, with reports of traffic queued back to junction 2 of the M32.
