Man taken to hospital after assault which sparked a major emergency services response in South Bristol

A man has been assaulted in South Bristol, sparking a major emergency services response this evening (Thursday, October 1).

Police and ambulance were called to Gay Elms Road in Withywood at just after 7.30pm, to reports of an assault.

Images from people at the scene show a number of police vehicles and ambulance responders.

A man has been injured and taken to hospital, but his condition is not yet known at this stage.

Reports locally claimed that the victim of the assault was a teenager, but this has not been confirmed by the police.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police said: "We were called today at 7.37pm to reports of an assault in Withywood.

"Both police and the South Western Ambulance Service attended the scene and one person was found to be injured, and was taken to hospital."
