Man 'swims to Renfrew' from Clydebank after car crashes into River Clyde

A man reportedly swam from Clydebank to Renfrew after a car crashed into the River Clyde.

Police were called to the scene of a car having gone into the water at Dock Street, Clydebank, late last night.

A 33-year-old then approached police in Renfrew claiming he'd swam across the river from Clydebank, before he was taken to hospital.

The man was later released from hospital, and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed to Glasgow Live: "Police attended reports of a car having gone into the Clyde at Dock Street in Clydebank, about 9.35pm last night.

"The car was recovered later that evening.

"A 33-year-old man then contacted police in Renfrew saying he'd swam across the river from Clydebank.

"He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth for a check-up but has since been released.

"Enquiries are still continuing. No-one has been arrested or charged at this time".
