A man is claiming that he swam from Clydebank to Renfrew after a car drove into the River Clyde .

It's around a two-mile swim from where the car entered the water at Dock Street, Clydebank, late on Monday night.

Police were called to the scene of the crash before a 33-year-old man approached them in Renfrew saying he'd swam across the river before he was taken to hospital, reports Glasgow Live.

The man was later released from hospital, and police are now investigating the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "The car was recovered later that evening.

"A 33-year-old man then contacted police in Renfrew saying he'd swam across the river from Clydebank.

"He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth for a check-up but has since been released.

"Enquiries are still continuing. No-one has been arrested or charged at this time."
