Feb. 16--A man suspected in at least four Chicago bank robberies has been arrested and charged, authorities said.
The man was expected to appear in federal court Tuesday afternoon, a law enforcement source said. He is suspected of robbing a Fifth Third Bank branch, 837 W. North Ave., about 9:40 a.m. Feb. 6, as well as at least three other banks. The Tribune is not naming the man because details of the charges against him could not immediately be confirmed.
The man also is suspected of robbing a Byline Bank, 742 W. Diversey Parkway, about 2:35 p.m. Jan. 26, according to the FBI's BanditTrackerChicago website.
The man entered the bank and demanded money, implying that he had a handgun, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago police spokesman. No one was injured in the robbery, he said.
The man took cash and fled the bank, Sweeney said.
The man also is suspected of robbing a branch of American Eagle Bank, 2255 N. Western Ave., about 8:15 a.m. Jan. 15, and a branch of U.S. Bank, 2131 S. China Place, about 11:15 a.m. Dec. 28, according to the FBI.
A reward had been offered for information about the man. Anyone with information was asked to call the Chicago office of the FBI, 312-421-6700.
