A 62-year-old man survived after his Isuzu MU-7 plunged from a car park on the fourth floor of a high-rise building in Klong Toey district of Bangkok late Saturday morning.
Anukul Wannasuk, 62, sustained head and face injuries after the incident at a 26-storey condominium on Soi Phai Singto off Rama IV Road at 11.30am on Saturday, Thai media reported. He was rushed to a nearby hospital before police arrived.
Witnesses told police they heard the sound of car crashing into the wall several times before it hit the ground.
Police investigating the scene found the Isuzu MU-7 with Bangkok licence plates nose-down on the ground floor near the wall of the building. The gearshift was in the Drive position, they said.
Paweena Wannasuk, the wife of the driver, told police that her husband, a retired solider, had gone to the car park on Saturday morning to check the car as he was planning to use it in the evening.
Pol Capt Pattanapong Siricharoennam, deputy investigation chief at the Thong Lor station, said the investigation found that Mr Anukul started the engine, but his vehicle moved backward and struck a barrier. He then shifted into Drive and started the engine but the vehicle plunged though the barrier and fell off the building.
Police plan to question Mr Anukul after his condition improves.
