A man has been killed in a road accident in Dubai, less than ten minutes after he survived a collision with a truck.
The unnamed victim, who officials said was from the United Arab Emirates, suffered minor injuries in the first accident.
As he waited for an ambulance by the roadside, the man was hit by a passing car and died instantly, according to Dubai traffic chief Saif Muhair Al Mazroui.
Over 170 Dubai residents were killed in road accidents in 2016, a 45 per cent increase on the 2015 total.
The figure prompted the city authorities to introduce new road safety schemes to reduce speeding and swerving.
Some 44 pedestrians were run over and killed by vehicles and a further 303 injured.
On Boxing Day, 26 people were severely injured in a multi-vehicle accident on the busy Emirates Road crossing, according to Gulf News.
Two days later, police issued a warning after thick fog caused 119 accidents on Dubai’s major highways.
