Man suffers stab wound during 'physical altercation' in Top Valley

A 20-year-old man has been sentenced after a stabbing in Top Valley.

Owen Fletcher, of Rock Street, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, July 16.

His sentence follows an incident on January 31, where Fletcher, during a dispute with a man in Whitcombe Gardens, revealed a knife.

During a physical altercation that followed, the man suffered a stab wound to his arm.

Police were called to the Queen’s Medical Centre at around 8.30pm that evening, where both Fletcher and the man were treated for injuries sustained during the altercation.

Fletcher was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for 18 months.

He was also ordered to complete 15 days’ rehabilitation and pay a victim surcharge of £149.

Detective Inspector Chanelle Whitney, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “What happened that night clearly shows the consequences of carrying a knife.

“The dispute between the two escalated because Fletcher decided to carry a knife, and resulted in both attending hospital.

“We want to emphasise that, whether it is intended for use or not, carrying a knife is an offence, and we hope this sentence serves as a warning of the consequences of doing such.”
