A man suffered serious injuries following a crash between two motorbikes in Bolton.

Emergency services were called to the smash involving two Yamaha bikes on St Peter's Way, close to the Kearsley Roundabout, at about 2.45pm on Monday (April 12).

One of the bikes collided with the concrete central barrier and the rider - a 34-year-old man - suffered serious injuries including a broken leg.

The rider of the second bike remained at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Following the crash, a closure was in effect on the northbound carriageway of the M61, close to the sliproad for the St Peter's Way.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and make alternative travel arrangements where possible.

The road was eventually reopened in the early hours of this morning.

An investigation by GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is underway and officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dash cam footage, to contact them on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident 1622 of 12/04/2021.

Details can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
