Man suffers serious head injury after falling from rocks at Whitley Bay promenade

A man has suffered a serious head injury after falling from rocks at Whitley Bay promenade.

Emergency services were called to the seafront in Whitley Bay just before 7pm on Friday.

Northumbria Police, North East Ambulance Service and a Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade crew all attended the scene.

An area of the seafront was cordoned off as emergency services rushed to the man's aid.

He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary after suffering a serious head injury.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 6.51pm to reports of a person having fallen from rocks at Whitley Bay promenade.

"Four of our HART crew, an officer, a specialist paramedic and the air ambulance all attended and took a male patient to the RVI by road with a serious head injury.”
