Man suffers serious head injury after being hit by bus in Liverpool city centre

A road in Liverpool city centre is closed this evening after a man was hit by a bus.

Emergency services were called to Renshaw street at around 5.55pm to reports that a pedestrian had been hit by a bus.

The man has been taken to hospital to be treated for a serious head injury.

Road closures are currently in place and people are asked to avoid the area.

The road was closed both ways meaning traffic was being diverted and there is reportedly very slow traffic from Newington to Brownlow Hill.

Merseyside Police earlier tweeted: " ROAD CLOSURE - Motorists please be aware of road closures due to an RTC on Renshaw Street #Liverpool the road is currently closed to traffic.

"Please avoid the area and plan your journeys accordingly. #DriveSafe ."

Many buses run down Renshaw Street and Merseytravel have also tweeted saying passengers should expect delays.

They tweeted: "Owing to a road traffic collision on Renshaw St. All bus services in this area are subject to diversion & delays in both directions."

Anyone who may have any information about the incident is asked to contact @MerPolCC, or call 101 quoting ref. 760.
