Man suffers serious head injury after being hit by bus

A man has been taken to hospital with a serious head injury after he was struck by a bus.

Emergency services were scrambled to Newport Street, Bolton, just after 1.30pm today (Tuesday August 31).

A man in his 50s was taken to Salford Royal Hospital with a serious head injury.

Newport Street was closed between Section Street and The York pub while police and the ambulance service worked at the scene.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We took a call at 13:39 today to reports of an RTC involving a bus and a pedestrian on Newport Street in Bolton.

"We sent an RRV, an ambulance and advanced paramedic to scene and treated a male patient in 50s with serious head injury.

"Patient was taken to Salford Royal by land ambulance."

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that no arrests have been made and that enquiries are ongoing.

A GMP spokesman said: "Police were called at around 1.45pm today to a report of a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian on Newport Street, Bolton.

"Emergency services attended and a man was taken to hospital.
