Man suffers 'serious facial injury' in sword and hammer gang attack

A gang armed with weapons including a sword and a hammer left a man with a “serious facial injury” after a vicious attack.

Detectives are appealing for information over the incident, which happened on Mersey Road in Runcorn near the Silver Jubilee Bridge at around 5pm on Sunday.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said the victim was walking close to the structure when a gang of four thugs carrying weapons attacked him.

One of them was armed with a “sword-type weapon” while another had what appeared to be a hammer, which was used to strike the man to the face causing a “serious” injury.

Police are keen to hear from witnesses.

Detective Constable Kayleigh Brown said: “I would urge anyone who witnessed the assault or has dashcam footage that may help to contact us so that we can find those responsible.”
