Man dies after being crushed by falling rocks at Cornwall beach

A man has died after being crushed by falling rocks in Cornwall.

Police, coastguard teams, both the air and land ambulance and the fire service were all called to the scene at Sandymouth Beach, Bude, just before noon today.

Information from both the police and Maritime & Coastguard Agency suggested that rocks fell onto the man from above.

The Maritime & Coastguard Agency confirmed they were called to "a rock fall involving a man", reports Cornwall Live.

An ambulance spokesman added: “SWASFT were called at 11.50am to Sandymouth car park after it was reported a person involved in a cliff fall.

“We sent two four wheel drive ambulances and the air ambulance for a multi-agency response.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed this afternoon that the man had died.

They said: “We were called just before midday with reports of a cliff fall involving a man at Sandymouth Beach in Bude.

“Emergency services attended and sadly the man was confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

“Coastguard and fire remain the scene and enquiries are ongoing.”
