A man has been left with life-changing injuries after being beaten leaving a football match.

The victim, who is in his mid twenties, was assaulted as he made his way out of Sydney Russell School in Dagenham, London.

Police officers were called to the scene, but the suspect had fled before they arrived.

“Police were called at 12:16hrs on Sunday, 17 November to Sydney Russell School in Dagenham following reports of an assault after a football match," a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said.

“Officers attended and found a man, aged in his mid-20s, suffering from head and facial injuries.

“He was taken by the London Ambulance Service to an east London hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

“The suspect left prior to police arrival. A crime scene remains in place."

There have been no arrests so far but enquiries continue.

The football match was not directly affiliated with the school.
