Man suffers head injury as crash closes road into city

A major road into Liverpool was closed after a crash involving a van and a car.

The car driver suffered a head injury in the smash just before noon which at one point completely blocked the A565 Rimrose Road in Seaforth to traffic heading towards the city.

The injured man has been taken to Aintree hospital - the severity of his injuries are not known at this stage.

Police said they were called at 11.51am to the crash involving a Honda car and a white Ford Transit van and it happened on the junction of Knowsley Road.

The A565 Rimrose Road was initially closed towards Liverpool but one lane had reopened as of 12.30pm.

One ECHO reader got in touch to say: "The van is currently blocking the part of the junction of the lights."

A Merseyside Police   spokesman told the ECHO: "We were called at 11.51am to reports of a two vehicle crash. One male driver has suffered a head injury."
