Man suffers head injury after car smashes into tree

A man suffered a head injury after his car was involved in a two-vehicle collision and then smashed into a tree.

The car was left a mangled wreck following the accident in Skelmersdale this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Stannought Road shortly after 8am.

The man with the head injury was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, said Lancashire Police.

Video footage taken at the scene shows both cars involved in the collision being loaded on to a tow-away truck.

The car at the bottom is completely wrecked, with the whole of the front caved in from the force of the impact.

There was also significant damage to the other car involved in the collision.

The road was closed in both directions while the accident was cleared.

It was re-opened at around noon.
