Man suffers head injuries in Leeds city centre knife fight

A man was taken to hospital with head injuries after he was attacked with a knife in Leeds city centre.

West Yorkshire Police were called to Leighton Street, outside Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital, at 8.50pm on Wednesday, June 19, after a fight broke about between two groups of men, who were armed with knives.

Officers found a 21-year-old man with knife injuries to his head and hand.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged. Police then arrested him on suspicion of affray.

A police spokesman said: "He remains in custody along with two other men, aged 20 and 27, who were both arrested in the area of the incident on suspicion of wounding.

"Enquiries are ongoing to trace other suspects in relation to the incident."

There have been more than 1,200 injuries caused by knives in West Yorkshire since 2017 and 17 murders.
