Man suffers head injuries after ‘drive-by supermarket shooting’ in Streatham

A man was found with head injuries by Tooting Bec Lido after shots were reportedly fired in a Sainsbury’s car park.

The victim, in his 20s, is in a stable condition in hospital with police trying to investigate how he suffered his injuries.

Armed police were called to Sainsbury’s supermarket after reports of shots being fired from a car on Streatham High Road at 8.15pm on Wednesday.

A witness told The Sun: “I came to get a bit of shopping and everything seemed fine.

“The next minute security staff started running towards the entrance and they shouted that there had been a shooting.

“The staff said it was a drive-by shooting and three guys were apparently involved.

“When they made off, they hit a road sign.”

Several bollards were knocked over in the car park as the vehicle fled the scene

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Police were called at 20:16hrs on Wednesday, 2 March to reports of a firearms discharge in Streatham High Road.

“Armed officers attended along with London Ambulance Service. A search of the area was carried out and a man, aged in his 20s, was found with head injuries near to Tooting Bec Lido.

“He was taken to hospital where his condition was assessed as not life-threatening.

“Officers are working to establish how the man received his injuries. There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.”
