A man has suffered a foot injury after a shooting on a quiet residential street in south east London.

Police were called shortly before 7pm last Monday to reports of a man with a gunshot injury in the area of Grace Close, Mottingham.

They found a 23-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his foot. He was taken to hospital, where his injuries have been assessed as not life-threatening.

Enquiries continue and there have been no arrests at this stage, police said.

Detective Inspector Kevin Ricketts said: “This incident, in which a young man was injured, happened in a residential street in the early evening – a time when members of the public were going about their business as usual.

“While residents are right to be concerned, fortunately firearms discharges are extremely rare.

“You can expect to see additional patrols in the area over the coming days, and I would urge local people to approach officers on patrol to discuss any information or concerns they have with them.”
