Man suffered fatal head injury after drunkenly celebrating new job opportunity

A man who suffered a serious head injury in a fall at his home had been celebrating a potential new job, an inquest heard.

Mathew Padmore, 49, was drinking whiskey and rum at his home in Woodhouse Park on Saturday, March 16 before he fell and suffered a fatal blow.

He was discovered by friend Neil Gunn, who found the door of the flat unlocked when he got back from work.

Mr Gunn, who found Mr Padmore lying on his bed, performed CPR until paramedics arrived and identified Mr Padmore to police officers.

A post mortem investigation carried out by Dr Mapstone revealed a very large amount of alcohol to be present but less than the amount would usually be considered fatal.

Mr Padmore had also suffered a head injury.

He concluded the head injury was the result of a fall which was likely to be due to excessive alcohol consumption.

A statement written by Detective Inspector Mark Davies of Central Park Police Station in Manchester stated Mr Padmore had lived in his flat since 2018 and there had been no previous issues.

He stated Mr Padmore's flat was tidy and there was no sign of damage or forced entry.

An empty one litre bottle of rum and a half full one litre bottle of brandy were on the premises.

An examination of Mr Padmore's phone showed unanswered messages from that day.

Mr Gunn said Mr Padmore had been asked to go to London for a possible job opportunity.

Coroner Anghared Davies concluded Mr Padmore's cause of death to be an accident caused by a head injury contributed to by excessive alcohol consumption.

She extended her condolences to Mr Padmore's loved ones and said: "This is a very sad and distressing way to lose a loved one and my thoughts are with them."
