Man subjected to 'unprovoked and violent attack' while walking through Longsight park

A man was hurt in an 'unprovoked and violent' attack at a south Manchester park.

The incident happened at around 9.30pm on July 10 as the 68-year-old was walking through Birchfields Park in Longsight.

He was approached by a man who then attacked him.

The victim didn't need hospital treatment.

Police have now issued an appeal for information.

They are keen to speak to three people who helped the man following the attack.

No description of the attacker has been released.

“This was a completely unprovoked and violent attack on a man who was simply minding his own business,” Inspector Steve Griffin from GMP’s City of Manchester Division said.

“We’re keen to speak to anyone who can assist our enquiries and I’d directly appeal to those who came to his aid to make contact as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 4275 or 101 quoting incident number 3313 of 10/07/2020, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
