BAREILLY: Government Railway Police (GRP) on Tuesday said a 45-year-old aluminium trader from Moradabad city, Mohd Asim Hussain, who was allegedly stripped, thrashed for nearly an hour with belts in a moving train in Uttar Pradesh by his co-passengers, had sexually harassed a 20-year-old woman.
Hussain, was on his way back home from Delhi in the Pratapgarh bound '14208' Padmavat Express after purchasing some goods on January 12 when the incident occurred between Hapur and Moradabad railway stations. The matter came to light after several videos of the incident went viral on social media last week.
Police have also dismissed the allegations that Hussain was forced to chant religious slogans.
GRP SP Aparna Gupta, in a statement, said, “We had earlier registered an FIR in the matter on the complaint of Asim Hussain. Videos of the crime were also taken into consideration. However, after an initial probe, we found that the mob assaulted the man after he was caught touching a 20-year-old pregnant woman inappropriately. The woman initially didn’t come forward to lodge the complaint; however, we had deployed multiple teams to find her and now an FIR has been lodged under section 354 of IPC (attempt to outrage the modesty of a woman) has been registered against the man. She hails from Shahjahanpur and currently lives in Noida. She also told us that the man was not forced to chant any religious slogans and no one had pulled his beard.”
Hussain was arrested and sent to jail on Tuesday evening by GRP Moradabad.
