Man stopped for not wearing a mask on the Metrolink had a knife on him

A man stopped for not wearing a mask on the Metrolink was found to have a knife on him.

After being challenged by police, officers in Trafford also found he was wanted on recall to prison.

Police tweeted 'HatTrick' after arresting him for breaching coronavirus rules, being wanted on recall and possessing a blade.

He also tried to give false details to officers.

Officers from the GMP Trafford Facebook page said: "#TransportUnit officers patrolling the #Metrolink in Trafford stopped a male earlier who was acting suspiciously and not wearing a face mask.

"He initially tried to trick officers by giving a friend's details - unfortunately for him his friend was #Wanted!

"When he eventually gave his real name he turned out to be #Wanted too - on recall to prison!

"On being searched he was found in possession of a #knife.

"#FPN issued for breach of COVID legislation, arrested for recall and possession of a bladed article in a public place. #HatTrick"
