Man stopped by police for driving without licence for 52 years

A man who was stopped by police revealed he had been driving without a licence for 52 years.

One of Nottinghamshire Police's Operation Reacher teams made the discovery on Wednesday, March 9.

The car was stopped in Stanton Hill, in the Ashfield area, as its driver didn't have a full driving license.

A spokesperson for Ashfield Police said: "JB and Jade from the Op Reacher team have just seized this vehicle in Stanton Hill as the driver didn't have a full driving licence.

"To our amazement though the driver disclosed he has been driving for 52 years - yes 52 years - without a licence.

"It's apparently OK though as the driver only narrowly failed his driving test in 1970."

It comes just a few months after another driver was stopped before revealing he had been driving without a licence for even longer - a whopping 72 years.

The driver told officers he was born in 1938, and admitted he had been driving with no licence or insurance since he was 12 years-old.

He said he'd never previously been stopped by police.
