Man stole walking aids from the British Red Cross for more than 4 years

A man has admitted stealing rotunda walking aids belonging to the British Red Cross over a four-year time frame.

Steven Dunning pleaded guilty to theft of the aids between December 21, 2016, and December 31, 2020,

Gary Short, representing Dunning, 41, of Alma Hill, Kimberley, told Notttingham Crown Court on Tuesday (May 25) Dunning is a man in his early forties and has limited convictions.

Sharon Grice, 44, of Beechdale Road, Beechdale, also appeared in court and pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods between April 25, 2019, and January 31, 2020, after dishonesty receiving rotunda walking aids belonging to the British Red Cross.

Her lawyer, Matthew Smith, said: "She is 44 and of good character. She has a number of issues in her life, her own health difficulties, and cares for two children. It may well be the court is assisted by a report in her case".

The full facts of the case were not outlined at the hearing where the pleas were recorded and a sentencing date set.

Judge Gregory Dickinson QC, the Recorder of Nottingham, told Dunning and Grice: "The offences to which you have pleaded guilty are serious offences. Dunning, in your case, a gross breach of trust, committed against your employer".

The value of the walking aids is being clarified and the loss to the British Red Cross.

Sentencing will be on July 30.

The judge told them: "You have done the decent thing today by pleading guilty".

He directed a pre-sentence report be prepared on Grice.
