Man steals 16 bottles of self-tan and steaks in 3-month shoplifting spree

A 40-year-old man who committed a series of thefts at various Nottingham shops has been jailed.

Leeroy Simpson, of Croft Avenue in Long Eaton, pleaded guilty to breaching a criminal behaviour order and ten shop thefts at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, June 9.

He has been jailed for 14 months.

After a three-month spree between February and May, the shoplifter’s haul included 16 bottles of self-tan, beef steaks and boxes of washing powder.

Simpson stole from the Co-Op on Bracebridge Drive in Bilborough four times - once on April 18, twice on April 19 and once on May 1.

His other targets were Sainsbury’s in Watnall Road, Hucknall on February 16, Go Outdoors on Mansfield Road, Daybrook on February 25, Superdrug in Main Street, Bulwell on March 19, Heron in Bracebridge Drive, Bilborough on April 23, McColls in Broxtowe Lane, Aspley on April 24 and Wollaton Vale Service Station in Wollaton Vale, Wollaton, on May 1.

PC Keith Parkes of Nottinghamshire Police said: “Simpson has repeatedly helped himself to goods from shops at the expense of the business owners.

“We know what an impact shoplifting can have on businesses in our community, which is why I’m pleased we have been able to put Simpson before the courts to answer for his actions.

"I'm happy with the outcome today and hope it shows that crime does not pay.”
