A man stabbed in the head in Sydney's west is in a critical condition in Westmead Hospital. (AAP)

A man has been stabbed in the head with a screwdriver in Sydney's west.

Three men were arrested over the stabbing, which happened in Woodcroft on Tuesday just after 12pm.

The 26-year-old victim is in a critical condition in Westmead Hospital.

The men, aged 21, 24 and 25, were arrested in Lalor Park about 1.20pm, NSW Police say. They are assisting police with their inquiries.

The men are known to each other.
