Man stabbed while playing rugby in brutal daylight attack in Glasgow park

A man was rushed to hospital after being stabbed while playing rugby in a Glasgow park.

The victim was set upon in a brutal broad daylight attack at around 5.30pm on Saturday evening at Dawsholm Park.

Cops say a fight broke out while he played an informal game with a group of young men near to the west end park’s entrance at Ilay Road.

The 39-year-old man remains in hospital where he is receiving treatment for stab wounds.

The incident comes a day after an alleged sex attack on a teenage girl, 14, in the same park, and three weeks after the horrifying rape ordeal of another teenager in the beauty spot.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to last night’s stabbing.

Detective Sergeant Murray Rolley said: "We know there were various members of the public in the park around the time of the incident and I am appealing for anyone with information to contact us.

"Maybe you saw the game of rugby or the group of males, playing or running off.

"Any small piece of information could be vital to us as we piece together the circumstances."

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl at Dawsholm Park, which took place at around 9.30pm on Friday, June 19.

Police are continuing to investigate the rape of a 16-year-old girl in the park, which also boundaries the north of Glasgow, on June 1.

Anyone with information on any of the incidents is asked to call Police Scotland via 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
