The man was stabbed at a crisis accommodation centre in West Melbourne.

A 44-year-old man has been charged with murder after another man was allegedly stabbed to death in West Melbourne.

Police said the stabbing happened inside the grounds of the Flagstaff Crisis Accommodation centre about 7:30am.

The victim, who has not been formally identified, was treated at the scene but has since died.

The alleged attacker was arrested at the scene a short time later and was charged by police this afternoon.

Police said they were investigating whether the pair knew each other.

It is understood the incident happened in the courtyard.

The facility is a statewide crisis service providing accommodation, meals and support for 64 men.
