Man stabbed to death in the early hours of this morning

A man was stabbed to death in Skelmersdale this morning.

A murder investigation has now been launched following the attack on Acregate, in the town, at around 4.40am.

A man, 36, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The victim was stabbed in the chest and died at Aintree Hospital.

In a statement, Lancashire Police said: "Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in Skelmersdale.

"We were contacted by the Ambulance Service at shortly after 4:40am this morning to the report that a man was unconscious after being found with a stab wound to his chest at an address on Acregate.


"The man, was taken to Aintree Hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

"A 36-year-old man from Skelmersdale has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Willis, from Lancashire’s Force Major Investigation Team, aid: “We are in the very early stages of our enquiries and we are working on tracing the man’s family so we can inform them.

"My thoughts remain with them at this incredibly sad and difficult time.

“I am asking anyone who knows anything at all about this incident to speak to us. They can call 101 and quote incident reference 149 of today (March 28th).”

A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the cause of the man’s death.
