Man stabbed to death in Ballyfermot apartment named as residents say area is 'just not safe'

The victim of a fatal stabbing in Ballyfermot, Dublin, on Tuesday morning has been named locally as David Ennis.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene of an apartment in the Claddagh Court complex at around 2.30am after receiving reports of an incident.

David, aged in his late 30s, was discovered at the apartment with serious injuries.

He was treated at the scene by emergency personnel but was pronounced dead a short time later.

A woman in her later 40s has since been arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Clondalkin Garda Station.

Residents of the complex have said that the area has been unsafe for some time.

Speaking at the scene, Claddagh Court resident Joan Murphy told the Irish Mirror: "It's not easy living in there. You bolt your door at night, and you're making sure you don't reopen it."

The 72-year-old, who's lived in the complex since it opened, added: "If you knocked at my door at night, there's no way you're getting an answer.

"There's always fighting going on. And if you heard that racket in sitting room, you'd be wondering 'who is going to be killed'.

"Residents have said for years it will take somebody to be killed, and it's just happened. We've predicted this for years.

"It's been like for this years. There's no security. It's just not safe. Residents feel unsafe. I've had to put a camera on my door - at least I know who's outside my door. There's no way if you rang my bell after dark that, I'd answer the door.

"I wouldn't open that door to anyone. "

Gardaí have said they are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the death.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a man following an incident in Ballyfermot, Dublin, on Tuesday the 8th of November, 2022.

"Shortly after 2.30am, Gardaí and Emergency Services attended at a flat in Claddagh Court, Ballyfermot, where a man aged in his late 30s was found with an apparent stab wound.

"The injured man was treated at the scene by Emergency Services personnel but was pronounced dead a short time later.

"A woman aged in her late 40s has since been arrested by investigating Gardaí and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Clondalkin Garda Station."

They added: "Investigations are ongoing and further updates will follow."

The body has since been removed from the scene and a postmortem is expected to take place shortly.
