Man stabbed to death 'at party celebrating life of friend killed in knife attack the day before'

A man was stabbed to death at a party to celebrate the life of his friend who was the victim of a knife attack just 24 hours earlier, it was reported.

The 38-year-old man was found with stab wounds to his chest in Mill View Close, Sneinton, Notts, in the early hours of Sunday. He later died of his injuries.

It came after Martin Maughan, 27, was found with a stab wound in West Walk, Sneinton, at just after 6am on Saturday. He also died as a result of his injuries, Nottinghamshire Police said.

The BBC said it is understood the two victims were friends, and that the second victim was having a party to celebrate the life of his pal when he was stabbed.

Chief Inspector Mark Stanley, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The murders are not believed to be linked and we're treating them as separate incidents.

"We have increased visible patrols in the local area to reassure the local community and to provide them with appropriate information as to what has happened.

"The early indications are that these incidents are confined to people who are known to each other and who were at addresses they were invited to.

"In connection with the murder in West Walk we have arrested a 19-year-man on suspicion of murder. A 43-year-old, arrested on suspicion of murder, is still in police custody.

"No other people are sought in relation to this incident."

He said formal identification of the Mill View Close victim has not taken place, adding: "We are actively seeking a suspect in relation to this incident."

Anyone with any information about either incident is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101.
