Man stabbed to death at Melbourne station

Victoria Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed to death at a Melbourne station. (AAP)

A man has been stabbed to death at a train station in Melbourne's outer suburbs, with a police hunt underway for the offender.

Police say the man had "an interaction" with another unknown man while walking through Melton train station on Staughton Street about 2.30am on Wednesday.

After the exchange, the offender approached the 40-year-old Melton man and stabbed him in his upper body.

Emergency services found the man with life-threatening injuries, however he died at the scene.

Investigators want to speak to four men, perceived to be of African appearance, who were with the offender at the southern end of the train station just before the stabbing.
