Man stabbed outside McDonald's as police descend on restaurant

A man is in hospital after being stabbed in Atherton.

It happened shortly before 6.30pm on Sunday evening outside a McDonald's restaurant in the town.

Police said they were called to Tyldesley Road after reports a man being stabbed in the leg.

Police along with paramedics attended and the victim, who is in his twenties, was taken to hospital.

He suffered a "minor wound", Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

A police cordon was put in place outside the McDonald's restaurant near the border with Tyldesley following the incident.

An area at the side of the building was taped off with officers standing guard.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing," a GMP spokesperson said.

They are now appealing for anyone who may be able to help with their enquiries to come forward.

"Anyone with information should contact police online, if able, or via 101 quoting incident number 2526 of 12/09/2021" the spokesperson added.

"Details can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
