Man stabbed on same road Zara Aleena was killed - day after vigil for aspiring lawyer

A man was stabbed on the same road where aspiring lawyer Zara Aleena was attacked and killed.

It come just hours after her family begged “this must never happen again”.

The victim, in his 30s, was found by officers with multiple stab wounds in Cranbrook Road, outside Valentine’s Park in Ilford at 4.20am on Monday.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Officers attended and found a man in his late 30s with stab injuries.

“He was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service, his injuries were found to be non life threatening or changing. A crime scene is in place.

“No arrests at this time, enquiries continue.”

Zara Aleena was “on the home stretch” when she was killed as she walked home from a night out, her aunt told hundreds of people at a vigil dedicated to the 35-year-old law graduate (PA Wire)

It came after hundreds of people dressed in white came out to march in Zara Aleena’s memory on Saturday.

The silent vigil traced the route along Cranbrook Road which she was using to get home from a night out with friends when she was attacked.

Ms Aleena’s aunt Farah Naz stopped yards from the family’s home and turned to the crowd before addressing the crowd: “Zara was on the home stretch.

“Thank you so much for doing the walk and holding her in your hearts, praying for her, keeping her safe on this journey.

“At this point now, we ask you to go home and thank you so much for being here today because this is our Zara, this is our issue, this is something that we must all change, it must never happen again. Thank you for being here.”

The 35-year-old Londoner had been returning home from a night out when she was dragged, kicked and stamped on, prosecutors said.

A post-mortem examination found she had suffered multiple serious injuries.

Jordan McSweeney, 29, of Church Elm Lane, Dagenham, east London, appeared at the Old Bailey on Friday accused of murder, attempted rape and robbery.

He entered no pleas and was remanded in custody.
