Man stabbed on platform of Abraham Moss Metrolink station following disturbance on a tram

A man was rushed to hospital after he was stabbed on the platform of a Metrolink tram stop.

The horror attack followed a disturbance on board a tram, police have confirmed.

It spilled out onto a platform at the Abraham Moss Metrolink tram stop off Woodlands Road in Crumpsall, where the attack happened.

Two teenagers, both 17, have been arrested.

The man who was stabbed - who is aged 34 - was taken to hospital from the scene at 1.55pm today for treatment for a stab wound, Greater Manchester Police said.

A GMP spokesman said: "His condition is not believed to be life-threatening."

Emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised.

The victim hasn't been named and no further details surrounding the disturbance have been revealed.

Police confirmed the two 17-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

Both remained in custody for questioning on Wednesday afternoon.

Detectives have issued a plea for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

It's understood CCTV images from the tram and platform will be assessed as part of the ongoing investigation.

The GMP spokesman added: "Shortly after 1.55pm today, police were called to reports that a man had been stabbed at Abraham Moss tram stop following a disturbance.

"A 34-year-old man was taken to hospital to be treated for a stab wound. His condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

"Two 17-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. They remain in custody for questioning."

Detective Inspector Jen Tattersall, of GMP's City of Manchester division, said investigators were currently working to piece together exactly what happened.

She said: "A man has been stabbed following a disturbance on the tram, and we are currently trying to piece together the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

"Although we've made two arrests, our enquiries are very much ongoing and we are appealing for information.

"I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened to get in touch with us as soon as possible."
