Man stabbed near market remains in hospital

A man remains in hospital after he was stabbed in the face and back in a broad daylight attack.

Police cordoned off the area around Kirkby Market on St Chad’s Drive on Saturday, March 20, after officers were called to the area to reports of the assault.

The victim, a 39-year-old man suffered multiple stab wounds to the face and back and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

His injuries were described on Saturday as "serious but non-life threatening".

In an update today Merseyside Police confirmed the victim remains in hospital.

A police spokesperson said detectives are investigating an offence of Grievous Bodily Harm following the attack.

A 49-year-old man from Kirkby arrested on Saturday has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Neil Fletcher said: “This was an appalling attack leaving a man hospitalised with serious injuries.

“I would like to reassure the community in Kirkby that we have one man in custody and the investigation is ongoing.”
