Man stabbed inside barber shop after frenzied brawl breaks out

A man has been rushed to hospital after he was stabbed in the middle of a barber shop following a violent brawl.

Police were called to Aigburth Road in Liverpool at around 3.40pm on Tuesday afternoon following reports of a fight between a gang of men at Groom Barber Shop.

Officers arriving at the scene found a man in his 20s with several stab wounds to his legs and back.

He was taken to hospital shortly afterwards, reports the Liverpool Echo, and his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Five police vehicles have been seen at the scene, including forensics officers, who were seen placing items into evidence bags outside the barber shop.

A cordon remains in place covering a number of shops and the pavement outside.

Merseyside Police are now urging anyone in the area who may have witnessed the incident or have information to come forward.

Chief Inspector Colin Dyer said: “We are in the early stages of investigating this incident as we seek to establish exactly what happened.

"We currently have a large police presence in the area carrying out a number of lines of enquiry and I would encourage people who were on Aigburth Road this afternoon and saw this incident to come forward and tell us what they know.

“Anyone carrying knives or dangerous weapons to threaten the safety of themselves and others in our community will not be tolerated in our city and our officers are working to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”

Local people have spoken of their shock that the incident happened in their area, with one person who works nearby telling the Echo that it was “scary” to hear somebody had been stabbed on the road.

One woman, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s really scary to see police here. This used to be seen as a posh area but it’s creeping downhill now.”

A man who works on the same road said he did not witness the stabbing but had police come in to ask about it, adding: "It’s really grim when it’s right in your doorstep.”
