Man stabbed in the back in the middle of the street in Wigan town centre

A 40-year-old man was stabbed in the back in the middle of the day in Wigan town centre.

The victim was left with an inch-deep wound following the knife attack on Mesnes Street at 12pm on Saturday.

Police said they believed it was an 'isolated incident' and that the attacker and the victim were known to each other.

A GMP spokesman did not have any details about arrests.

The spokesman said: "We were called at 12pm to Mesnes Street in Wigan to reports of a stabbing by a known individual.

"The victim was 40-years-old. He suffered an inch-wound to his back.

"It looks like an isolated incident. The victim suffered very minor injuries."
