Man stabbed in street shortly after reports of 'fight between youths'

A man is in hospital after being stabbed in the street following reports of a 'fight involving youths'.

Police were called to Grindon Avenue in Kersal, Salford, at around 6.45pm on Friday night.

A man, 58, was found with stab injuries and taken to hospital.

His condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, but police confirmed they also received reports of a fight between youths 'shortly before' they were called to the stabbing.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning.

There was no police cordon or any sign of the incident when the Manchester Evening News visited the scene on Saturday.

Inquiries are ongoing.   

GMP said in a statement: "Police were called at around 6.45pm on Friday 5 July 2019 to Grindon Avenue in Kersal to reports that a man had been stabbed.

"It was further reported that a fight involving youths had been ongoing shortly before the call was made.

"A 58-year-old man has been taken to hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

"Enquiries are ongoing and a 17-year-old boy remains in custody for questioning on suspicion of assault.
