Man stabbed in Butetown in broad daylight taken to hospital by members of the public

A man stabbed on a busy  Cardiff  street in broad daylight was taken to hospital by members of the public.

The incident happened on West Bute Street in the Butetown area of the city just before midday on Wednesday, when police were called to reports of a stabbing.

A 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were initially arrested in connection with the incident, but they have now been released under investigation.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said they were called to the incident but were not required to attend, as the patient made their own way to hospital.

In a statement South Wales Police said: "A 28-year-old man from Butetown was taken, by members of the public, to the University Hospital of Wales where he has been treated for minor puncture wounds to his leg.

"Two men - aged 20 and 22 - arrested in connection with a stabbing on West Bute Street at around midday yesterday have been released under investigation.

"Inquiries are on-going."

Butetown councillor Saeed Ebrahim said knife crime was a concern UK-wide and police were doing their best to tackle this problem.

"I would not say Butetown is any different to any area of Cardiff," he continued. "It is not nice to see this happening in any ward."
