Teenager charged with stabbing man at Central Coast bus stop

POLICE have charged a teenage boy following a stabbing on the Central Coast on Monday.

It's alleged the 15-year-old was one of three males who approached a 20-year-old man at a Bay Village Road bus stop, outside a shopping centre in Bateau Bay, at about 2.30pm.

Following a verbal altercation it is alleged the 20-year-old was stabbed in the back.

The 20-year-old man was taken to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle with a stab wound.

He was reportedly in a stable condition.

At 4.30pm on Monday, the 15-year-old boy was arrested at Toukley Police Station and charged with affray, and wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear before a children's court on Tuesday.

Inquiries are continuing into the other two alleged offenders.

Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to contact police or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The attack came after a statewide crackdown on knife crime earlier this month, codenamed Operation Foil.

During Operation Foil, which ran from April 11 to April 13, more than 800 police officers from every command in NSW, backed by specialist officers, targeted knife crime and antisocial behaviour.

During the high-visibility sting across NSW, 51 knives or weapons were seized and 145 people were charged with weapons offences, including the seizure of a firearm.
