Man stabbed during 'disturbance' with another man in South Shields

A man has been stabbed following a disturbance in South Shields.

Police were called to Warkworth Avenue in the Marsden area on Sunday afternoon after reports that two men fighting were outside an address on the street.

During the incident, a 30-year-old man sustained an injury to his stomach, believed to have been caused by a bladed article.

Another man was arrested in connection with "outstanding matters", Northumbria Police said.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At around 2.04pm yesterday (Sunday) we were called to a report of a disturbance, involving two men fighting outside an address in Warkworth Avenue, South Shields.

"One of the men, a 30-year-old sustained a non life threatening injury to his stomach believed to be caused by a bladed article.

"The other man, a 29-year-old, was arrested for outstanding matters and remains in police custody at this time."
