Man stabbed boss in Carpentersville after asking to be paid: prosecutors

A man is accused of stabbing his employer in the chest in northwestern suburban Carpentersville.

Juan J. Rivera, 35, is charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, one count of armed violence and two counts of aggravated battery, according to the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.

Rivera met with the owner of the roofing business he worked for about 9 a.m. Tuesday in the 2100 block of Teepee Avenue in Carpentersville and asked to be paid, the state’s attorney’s office said.

Unprovoked, Rivera allegedly reached through the driver’s side window of the vehicle the owner was sitting in and stabbed him near his heart with a serrated knife longer than three inches, the sheriff’s office said.

His employer required life-saving medical treatment and remains hospitalized, the sheriff’s office said.

Associate Judge Keith Johnson set Rivera’s bail at $800,000 and scheduled his next court date for 9 a.m. on June 26.
