Man stabbed and seriously wounded on Mag Mile after refusing to hand over ‘spare change’

A 52-year-old man was stabbed in an attempted robbery March 28, 2021, in the 700 block of North Michigan Avenue. | Sun-Times file

A man walking along the Mag Mile was stabbed and seriously wounded Sunday when he refused to hand over his property and “spare change,” according to Chicago police.

The 52-year-old man was walking in the 700 block of North Michigan Avenue around 4:30 p.m. when a person approached him and demanded his property, police said.

The man refused and the person then demanded the man’s spare change, police said. When he again refused, the attacker pulled out a sharp object and threatened him.

The man tried to walk away and was stabbed in the neck, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

The victim and witnesses gave officers a description and a suspect was taken into custody, police said. Charges were pending.
